Well nothing has changed in our support efforts since my early estimates on Iraq last year. The Examiner reports that weapons sent by the US to Iraq to rebuild their military are going to Shia militia units while US and coalition trained Sunni continue to go unarmed. This is to be expected. It was hoped that new Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi would seriously try and bridge the gaps with Iraq’s Sunni and Kurdish minorities but that’s proving to be a “wish too far” though entirely predictable considering Iran’s influence in Iraq. Even the discussion of arming Iraqi Kurds draws vehement protests from the Iran as undermining Iran’s, I mean Iraq’s authority. We continue to comply.
