The Washington Post reported an American general was killed today by an Afghan in an Afghan Army uniform. 15 other troops including a German general and eight oter Americans were wounded. The shooter was killed. Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, deputy commanding general of Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan in Kabul was later identified as the American general that was killed. He is the highest ranking service member killed since 911.
Latest reports state the shooter was a member of the Afghan Army for the last two years and the attack occurred at the Marshal Fahim National Defense University, in the Qargheh district of Kabul. It is the home of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan (NMAA, Afghan equivalent of West Point, the Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA, Afghan equivalent of Sandhurst) and the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy, which will include the Sergeant Major Academy.
