Interesting article discussing the loss of about 1500 armor vehicles by Assad’s forces over two years. The typical historical reasons, using armor without Infantry seems to be primarily to blame (big lesson there).
The losses are spread between killed and captured T-55s, T-62s, T-72s & BMPs. That’s subtracted from 1,600 T-72s, some 1,000 T-62s, 2,250 T-55s and 2,450 BMPs. While losing 20% of your armor in 24 months isn’t minor, this pales in comparison to the human loss of 120 thousand lives.
Consider and remember this when evaluating casualties (and how it impacts our warfighting) along with the nature of war in Syria, Assad has lost almost 50 THOUSAND troops, pro-gov’t fighters and Hezbollah in TWO years. Assad has inflicted less than 10k on the rebels. (We have lost almost seven thousand in over a decade of war.) Over 60k civilians have died.
