There’s been an interesting drama going on between the Marine Corps independent “Marine Corps Times” and the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) Gen Amos. The Marine Corps Times has done a series of articles critical of the Commandant’s role in punishing Marines involved in the Marine urination video and punishing whistleblowers. I’ve been following the issues pretty diligently here on gruntsandco.
Well another shoe has fallen. After the Corps removed the Marine Corps Times from its prominent cash register placement under a campaign to further “professionalize” the appearance of the PX, they promptly reversed themselves when the Marine Corps Times reported it. The Corps said the directive had been “misunderstood”, did not involve the CMS and the General in charge of the PX made the decision. Well, Marine Corps Times got the e-mails. (Ruh-Roh!)
Seems the CMC’s staff was researching the “boss’s options” over the Marine Corps Times misreporting that might impact “good order and discipline”. Further Gen Milstead before being ordering the Marine Corps Times’ removal that “it was the dumbest idea he ever heard of”.
The official response from the Marine Corps? “The matter at hand remains under review; therefore, we cannot respond in detail at this time.”
