Army Times reported the Army is looking for women volunteers to attend Ranger school and female “observers” to watch the effort. Senior Army leaders are supposed to decide in January to go ahead with the one time test but they want to have the volunteers in place just in case.
Does that really make sense? Why have to wait until January to do the test? Is it fair to volunteers? Won’t their rigorous preparation be in vain if the Army decides not to do the test for some reason? Wouldn’t it make sense to decide now and give them the greatest amount of time to prepare?
Also the article mentions the male standard, 49 pushups in two minutes, 59 sit-ups in two minutes, six pull-ups, and a five-mile run in 40 minutes as well as successfully completing the Army combat water survival assessment which includes submerged equipment removal and a 15-meter swim in ACU’s and boots. What the article doesn’t SAY is that women will have to meet the male standard.
Now you know what questions you should be asking and what to look out for…
