ABC reports at least some of the six Apache gunships sent to Iraq are being employed in strikes against ISIS. The Apaches were sent last month in the second batch of several hundred troops. They would have come in handy securing convoys or helicopters evacuating the green zone.
Apache gunships in coordination with Air Force fighters executed four airstrikes on ISIS northeast of Fallujah. A U.S. Central Command press release stated the aircraft “struck two mortar teams, a large ISIL [ISIS] unit and two small ISIL units.”
