Ft. Hood tore down the building where Nidal Hasan, an ex-Army officer and psychiatrist killed 14 and wounded 30 in 2009 while shouting “Allahu Akbar”. Nidal used an FN Five Seven pistol to gun down unarmed soldiers in the former Soldier Readiness Processing Center. Hasan fired 214 rounds and at least two soldiers and one civilian charged Hasan to disarm him. All three were shot. Two of them were killed. Officer Kimberly Munley encountered Hasan first outside the facility as Hasan chased the fleeing soldiers and exchanged fire. Hasan shot her twice. Officer Mark Todd then arrived and hit Hasan five times. Almost four years later Hasan was convicted in a court martial and sentenced to death.
The Army is planning to erect a memorial at the site.
Why tear down the building?
So there is less reason to discuss the multitude of ways Ft. Hood was botched.
-Officers didn’t write the evaluation Hasan earned because they were afraid of the PC climate.
-The FBI didn’t properly investigate or let the Army know an Army officer was in contact with a terrorist.
-Less reason to discuss contrary to popular belief why military bases are some of the largest gun free zones in the US.
-The President sent out a “shout out” before making his initial announcement about this tragic incident of “workplace violence”.
-The administration and Army insist on not calling this a terrorist event so as not to influence the LONG awaited trial and then AFTER the trial still can’t call someone shouting “Allahu Akbhar” while gunning down soldiers because they are soldier, a terrorist.
-End discussion over why the Army didn’t get the victim’s opinions on what to do with the site even though they said they did.
-Not discuss why NO ONE was fired or relieved over any of the above mistakes or what’s been done to avoid a repeat.
