Marines Surrender Weapons in Yemen Evac

It’s been pretty widely reported that the US has pulled its embassy personnel out of Yemen but what hasn’t been reported is that the Marines had to destroy their crew served weapons and then surrender their personnel weapons (rifles and pistols) before boarding a chartered flight out of Yemen.

Military.com reported the above details.  We are maintaining a special ops presence in Yemen.  It seems extraordinary for Marines to have to destroy/surrender their weapons.  Couldn’t they give them to special ops troops in Yemen?  Further, why use chartered aircraft?  Were we unable to put military assets in place despite the obvious unrest in Yemen?

This probably won’t hit the main stream media but the details are disturbing.
