Bill to open Air Force to deaf being considered

Military.com reports U.S. Rep. Mark Takano, D-California is introducing a bill that would allow a pilot group of 15-20 legally deaf to enlist and serve in the Air Force.  The legislation includes American citizens or legal residents who rely on hearing aids or cochlear ear implants to serve.  The .

Reps. John Garamendi and Henry Waxman of California, Reps. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, and Niki Tsongas of Massachusetts are cosponsoring the bill.  If the bill passes and is “successful”, the policy may be extended to the other branches.
