International Business Times reported that US special operations forces allegedly launched multiple raids which ultimately failed in Syria in attempts to free hostages including a captured Jordanian pilot.  The attempted raids were reported by activists of an anti-ISIS group in the city of Raqqa.  They stated more than 12 raids were launched within 12 miles of the city center involving at least seven helicopters and fixed wing aircraft that struck ISIS positions.  Heavy gunfire was reported in the vicinity of the attempted landings.

In a separate report, the Lebanese Al Mayadeen news agency reported the Jordanian pilot 1st Lt. Mu’ath al-Kaseasbeh wa executed by ISIS.  The report was translated by Arutz Sheva, an Israeli newspaper.

Unlike previous SOF raids conducted in Syria and Yemen, there has been no official confirmation or additional details released by US officials.
